Educational staff register

DUO records data on educational staff, such as teachers, for instance to manage their teaching qualifications. This data is also used by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to develop policies regarding the deployment of teachers and other educational staff.

Types of personal data

DUO uses different categories of personal data to maintain its educational staff register:

  • personal details, such as name, sex, marital status, date and place of birth
  • contact details, such as address, place of residence, telephone number and email address
  • education-related data, such as the name of your educational institution and diploma data
  • identification numbers, such as citizen service number (BSN) and student identification number.

Special categories of personal data

In some cases, DUO may also process personal data that falls under a special category. Some of the personal data we process is highly sensitive in terms of privacy. DUO only processes such special personal data in order to perform specific tasks, and when there is a specific legal basis for doing so. This includes:

  • data about your health, such as medical records or a doctor’s certificate.
Education contribution allowance

If you are a teacher who wants to pursue additional training, you can apply for funding from DUO. DUO offers an ongoing training grant, as well as a special allowance scheme for teachers aged 18 to 30. When you apply for one of these, DUO will process your personal data.

Funding educational institutions

DUO provides funding for schools and finances the benefits received by former teachers. Funding levels are determined by several factors, including the number of students enrolled at a school and the composition of its teaching staff.
