DUO uses different categories of personal data to determine the amount of certain allowances your child may be entitled to, such as the education allowance or a supplementary grant. This is done using your child’s personal data as well as your own.
Types of personal data
The categories of personal data collected for this purpose are:
- personal details, such as name, sex, marital status, date and place of birth
- contact details, such as address, place of residence, telephone number and email address
- financial data, such as grant amounts, income level and bank account number
- identification numbers, such as citizen service number (BSN) and student identification number; data relating to your interactions with DUO, such as email exchanges
- data about your living situation, such as the composition of your household and the number of children in your household.
Special categories of personal data
In some cases, DUO may also process personal data that falls under a special category. Some of the personal data we process is highly sensitive in terms of privacy. DUO only processes such special personal data in order to perform specific tasks, and when there is a specific legal basis for doing so. This includes:
- data about your health, such as medical records or a doctor’s certificate
- data on your ethnic origin (based on your nationality, country of birth and/or country of origin)
- data relating to criminal convictions and criminal offences (if you are in education while in detention, for example).
